Therapy For Musicians
The life of a musician brings unforgettable experiences and can appear glamorous, but as a musician, you face challenges outside of other professions which can be hard for non-musicians to understand.
I understand the highs and lows of being a musician from building up a following as a small indie artist, to being signed, touring, managing your image and professional relationships, continuing creative output.
With 10 years lived experience of the unique set of challenges being a musician brings, I deeply understand the challenges you face.
No matter your level of achievement, feelings of self-doubt, imposter syndrome, burnout, depression, and anxiety can be present. You might be facing performance anxiety or the challenges associated with stage fright. The experience of being part of a band can also be incredibly taxing, often likened to managing multiple close relationships.
While a strong sense of self may have initially inspired you to chase your dreams, it may now feel challenging to fulfill that need. It’s complicated when our sense of self is tied to our creative work, it’s part of our personal tapestry. However, the competitive nature of the music industry can lead to unhealthy comparisons with peers, resulting in bitterness and unhappiness.
In the world of music and creative arts, work is an ongoing process. As we improve and achieve greater success, our standards become increasingly demanding. Unfortunately, it can be hard to separate our success from our self-worth. Many hold the belief that professional success can alleviate internal dissatisfaction, but, our feelings of depression, self-doubt, and anxiety persist or even intensify as our careers progress.
Does the one thing you loved doing more than anything now leave you feeling unbalanced, overwhelmed or disillusioned? Would you find value in a private discussion with a therapist who is familiar with your experiences?
